Itinerary
Start your expedition to Kangaroo Island, with an early 6.45am departure from Adelaide CBD aboard a SeaLink bus headed to Cape Jervis ferry port. A 45-minute ferry trip takes you to Penneshaw, where an insightful Guide is waiting.
The journey continues on a comfortable bus travelling towards Pennington Bay, a stunning south coast beach renowned for its imposing surf breakers and inspiring swells. A coastal drive captures the the essence of the coastline.
Climb 500 stairs to reach the pinnacle of Prospect Hill, Kangaroo Island’s loftiest peak. Here, the panoramic views will offer you a mesmerising view of your surroundings.
Our journey then leads to Emu Bay, a genuine gem of the island, with its pristine turquoise waters. Enjoy a relaxed lunch and take a refreshing ocean dip before exploring Stokes Bay. Achieving the title of Australia’s finest beach in 2023, this haven provides ample time for snorkelling through rock pools and the surroundings.
As our first day comes to an end, we get settled in at an eco-campsite near the island’s eastern extremity. Following your dinner, join us for an expedition in nocturnal wildlife spotting – as the island’s natural inhabitants come alive during the night.
Throughout the day, we’ve covered approximately 240 km, exploring the best Kangaroo Island has to offer.

Start your day with breakfast before setting your sights on Flinders Chase National Park, an imperative destination at the island’s northwest corner. This park includes rock formations, immaculate beaches, and home to a diverse wildlife.
Walk along Admirals Arch’s boardwalk, with the possibility of seeing native New Zealand fur seals. A forest hike at Weirs Cove will be followed by a picnic lunch.
The afternoon offers an opportunity to contribute by volunteering at the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, a 2,000-hectare refuge teeming with koalas, kangaroos, echidnas, reptiles, possums, and avian life. The sanctuary’s story of resilience, regeneration, and recovery after the 2020 bushfires is inspiring. Season-dependent, our conservation tasks may require seed collection, tree planting, or animal census – all in all contributing to nature’s well-being.
Head to Seal Bay, home to over 800 endangered Australian sea lions—the third-largest colony worldwide. Join a 45-minute guided tour led by National Parks & Wildlife rangers. Follow the boardwalk to the shoreline, where sea lions lay, while understanding the crucial conservation efforts to protect this species.
After a long day, return to the camp for dinner.

Wake up for an early morning bush walk nearby camp. Spot for spectacular bird life in the lagoon’s shallow, calm waters and trees. Here, we will find a spot to have our final meal together, followed by a nice stroll along the water, looking for the many different species that inhabit the American River.
In the warmer months, weave your way through a labyrinth of caves before emerging at the beach voted best in Australia in 2023 – Stokes Bay. If the weather is right, enjoy some free time to snorkel among the rock pools or soak up the surrounding landscape.
The National Trust of South Australia cares for the world’s natural and built heritage and relies on the support of volunteers to protect and preserve special places. So, this afternoon, roll up your sleeves for some conservation volunteering at Zelling Reserve—an important wildflower sanctuary preserving native flora on the eastern end of Kangaroo Island. Our activity depends on the time of year but could involve collecting seeds, weeding or planting trees whilst learning from their passionate volunteers.
Arrive in Penneshaw for your 5.30 pm ferry back to the mainland. Once you arrive in Cape Jervis, your SeaLink bus connection will have you back in Adelaide at 9 pm.

Please note that on occasion, the ferry times will change from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, with the return time to Adelaide bus station at 10:30 pm. If this is the case, you will be informed two days before the tour departs Adelaide.
